The Price Is Right In Fantasy Football Rookie Drafts
In today's Fantasy Life Newsletter, presented by FantasyLife+.
Recently, 12 members of the Fantasy Life team (myself included) wrapped up our rookie draft for a superflex dynasty league.
All things considered, it's a pretty sharp group so it made for an enjoyable draft that included several trades and a few surprising picks. Let's break down Round 1.
Round 1 of the Dynasty Life Rookie Draft
1.01 - Jeremiyah Love
It's hard to argue with this one. Even in superflex formats, it's either Love or the next guy I'll highlight.
1.02 - Fernando Mendoza
You'll be hard-pressed to find a superflex draft that doesn't have these two at/near the top of the board. Positional scarcity necessitates snagging Mendoza here unless you truly have two elite QBs already.
1.03 - Jadarian Price
This is where the fun started. Our own Stefano Vaccarino traded up from the 1.04 to the 1.03 to draft Price. Here are the specifics of trade:
Stefano Vaccarino
- Sent - Dalton Kincaid, 2026 1.04
- Received - 2026 1.03, 2027 2nd Round Pick
Jorge Martin
- Sent - 2026 1.03, 2027 2nd Round Pick
- Received - Dalton Kincaid, 2026 1.04
While it's clear that Stefano wanted Price, I'm a bit surprised he moved up to get him since he was already sitting at the 1.04. Regardless, I'm always in favor of going to get your guy.
1.04 - Jordyn Tyson
Jorge moved back one spot and selected Tyson. I'm curious how managers are going to approach this tier of top-3 wideouts. FTR, Jorge later admitted that he had intended to take Price, even at the 1.03, because of an RB need. So the consolation was Tyson. Don’t feel sorry for him.
1.05 - Carnell Tate
Landing Tate here feels like a bit of a value and I love it. We project him to lead the Titans in targets this season and finish just shy of 200 PPR points. The Ohio State wideout factory rolls on.
1.06 - Makai Lemon
This Lemon pick represents the biggest tier break in Round 1 for me. If you're looking at how to approach your rookie draft, the 1.06 is the last of the premium picks. I have no problem (somewhat) mixing up the order of the top six picks, but there's certainly a difference after this.
1.07 - KC Concepcion
This was my pick. As mentioned, this slot is the top of the next tier. I considered trying to trade back a few slots, but decided to just roll with what I had and dip into the next tier of wideouts led by Concepcion.
1.08 - Kenyon Sadiq
The consensus rookie TE1, Sadiq has a chance to make an impact in Year 1. We'll see if Geno Smith is able to support multiple fantasy-viable assets this season.
1.09 - Omar Cooper
Speaking of rookie players on the Jets, Cooper brings National Championship experience and a solid profile to a team desperate for more help on offense.
1.10 - Eli Stowers
Gene Clemons drafted Stowers as the TE2 (and second Eagle) taken in this draft. Stowers is perfectly lined up to be the heir-apparent in Philly, as Dallas Goedert enters the final year of his contract.
1.11 - Chris Bell
If there's an offense with a ton of opportunity for an incoming wideout, it's Miami. Bell has all the talent in the world, but needs to get fully healthy after he tore his ACL last November.
1.12 - Denzel Boston
Oh hey, our own cooterdoodle picked last. That must mean … oh, wait. Yeah, she kinda dominated last year. We'll see if she reads this. Anyway, it feels different seeing two Browns players go in Round 1. Hopefully one of them can make an impact right away. No matter what the league charter allows.

Puka vs. JSN: Who You Got?
It’s Round 1 in your fantasy draft, and you’re staring at two players who made so many fantasy managers ecstatic in 2025. In this corner is the reigning OPOY Jaxon Smith-Njigba, he of the league-high 1,793 yards and the Super Bowl ring. In the other corner Is Puka Nacua, having just led the league in receptions at 129 and sporting back-to-back YPRR marks over 3 (hint: that’s really good). Oh yeah, he’s catching passes from the reigning MVP Matthew Stafford. Jonathan Fuller takes both sides of an argument where the correct answer may just be, “YES!” ⤵️

Year 2 QB Breakouts: A Trio Of Dart Throws
Oh, how we love the sophomore breakouts for QBs. Dan Marino in 1984. Patrick Mahomes in 2018. Caleb Williams and Drake Maye last year. It’s enough to make fantasy managers itchy for the next big thing. While there’s no guarantee that any of the Year 2 quarterbacks are ready to make as big of leaps as those who came before them, John Supowitz looked at the circumstances surrounding Cam Ward, Tyler Shough and Jaxson Dart going into the 2026 season. ⤵️
